Rye

Growing up between Beijing, Hong Kong, and New York, I’ve always seen cities as more than just skylines—they are living, breathing stories told through architecture. Each building, each street, and each reflection holds a piece of a city’s identity, shaped by culture, history, and the environment. My photography is a journey to uncover these hidden narratives, to frame what often goes unnoticed in the rush of urban life.

Reception: March 7, 2025 @17:00Growing up between Beijing, Hong Kong, and New York, I’ve always seen cities as more than just skylines—they are living, breathing stories told through architecture. Each building, each street, and each reflection holds a piece of a city’s identity, shaped by culture, history, and the environment. My photography is a journey to uncover these hidden narratives, to frame what often goes unnoticed in the rush of urban life.

Through my lens, I explore how architecture isn’t just design—it’s memory, movement, and meaning. The way light bends around glass towers, the rhythm of lines converging on a distant horizon, the silent dialogue between old and new—each composition is an attempt to capture the unseen essence of a place. Using leading lines, unconventional perspectives, golden ratios, and reflections, I strive to create images that don’t just depict a city but reveal its soul.

“Framing the Unseen” is about looking deeper—beyond the skyline, beyond the obvious—to find the moments where architecture speaks, where a city tells its own story.

As a Chinese American, I have chosen to donate the proceeds from my exhibition to OCA–Asian Pacific American Advocates, specifically the Westchester & Hudson Valley Chapter (OCA-WHV). This organization has been a cornerstone in promoting the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Islander Americans (APIA) since 1980. Their dedication to our community is evident through initiatives such as the Asian Heritage Festival, mental health programs, and the Westchester Asian Film Alliance. OCA-WHV also collaborates with local schools and cultural organizations to foster cultural harmony and provide support to students and new immigrants. By supporting OCA-WHV, I aim to contribute to their ongoing efforts in advocacy, cultural enrichment, and community development, ensuring a brighter future for APIAs in Westchester County and beyond.
