Isabelle Zhu

Hello! My name is Izzy Zhu. I am a current senior at Scarsdale High School passionate about advocating for environmental and social justice, especially through interdisciplinary visual art. Growing up surrounded by strong women, I was raised to value the power of community and the change that we are capable of. Art is so powerful for activism and creating long-lasting social change because of its accessibility- it transcends language and cultural barriers, instead using imagery to call upon emotion to create change. Through my work directing a local gallery for student artists and using public art for mental health and encouraging expression of creativity, I am inspired to continue using art as a form of activism to bring light to marginalized and underrepresented communities, thus building bridges to heal our world’s divisions. In my free time, I love going on adventures, especially in nature, reading and working at my local bookstore, eating scrumptious food, spending time with my loved ones and animals, going to concerts, playing and learning different instruments, and creating art (of course).
