Meadow Zhang

I am a sister, Chinese-American, scientist, and tennis player. These tangible components of my identity have significantly shaped who I am today in intangible ways. As an eldest daughter, I have become adept at not only taking care of my younger sister, but also at running organizations in my community such as the Health Occupations Students of American chapter at my school. My Chinese-American background has compelled me to combat Asian hate in my community by organizing events such as Heritage Night on behalf of the Asian American Pacific Islander Association and promoting cultural literacy through presentations on Asian holidays. This past summer, I volunteered in a lab studying immune system cancers at Mount Sinai Hospital where I performed my own experiments despite facing challenges with my protocols. In my role as captain of my tennis team (ranked 17th in the nation), I am a vocal supporter of my teammates, cheering them on during tough matches and working to boost team morale. These experiences have enabled me to develop the intangible qualities that are now core parts of my being. I am an organizer, advocate, problem-solver, leader, and so much more.
